1. What made you decide to become an LNA?

I became an LNA because I enjoy working with the elderly and helping people. I enjoy listening to their life stories.

2. What does professionalism mean to you?

Professionalism to me is being respectful and courteous to all staff, clients, or family members. Dressing properly for the job.

3. What does preparation mean to you in regards to your workday?

Preparation means being ready for the shift, having the supplies ready prior to starting a task, and making sure you have transportation in place.

4. What does framework mean to you in the caregiver arena?

The framework is building off what you have, to maintain a routine.

5. How are you meeting the needs of others as an LNA?

Meeting the needs of others as caregiving means making sure they are clean, safe, fed, and get their medications as prescribed.

6. Professionalism: How do you take responsibility for yourself?

Attitude: Keep a positive attitude
Mood: Calm and relaxed
Motivation: My clients keep me motivated and wanting to return the next day
Job knowledge: Keeping routine, so I remember my job details
Compassion: Being sympathetic to a client’s feelings

7. Preparation: How do you reduce risk to yourself and your client?

By transferring as ordered by OT/PT, making sure floors are clean and dry.

8. What does proper attire mean to you?

Proper attire means dressing appropriately for your position, dressing modestly, and proper footwear.

9. What does proper mobility mean to you?

Proper mobility is moving the client as safely as possible with their mobility limitations.

10. What precautions do you take?

Making sure floors and dry before moving client, brakes are on, or bed is in a low position, providing privacy before care.

11. What observations do you make when working?

I observe how a client is feeling, acting, or moving, monitoring for a decline.

12. What does self-control mean to you?

Controlling emotions and behaviors to avoid upsetting the client.

13. What does it mean to follow a care plan?

To follow a care plan means you follow the guidelines for that particular client, such as diet, how they transfer if not mobile, or any further plans in place.

14. What is proper communication?

Passing on observations or requests of client or family to an oncoming staff nurse if required.

15. How do you maintain a proper environment?

Floors clean and dry, area clean free of clutter, heating or cooling as needed.

16. How do you maintain meeting the basic needs of your client?

Making sure the client is clean, dressed and fed, warm and comfortable.

17. What does patience mean to you in the framework of caregiving?

Patience is required when the client is being combative, word searching, not feeling well, needing extra care, when they’re anxious.

18. How do you handle the unexpected?

I think I handle the unexpected well in the work environment, I’ve stayed calm in any situation I’ve been in so far.

19. What does proper documentation look like?

Documenting all the care that was received, medications are given, or illness or behavioral issues.

20. How do you review and improve?

I usually ask the client how or when they prefer to do the required tasks, stick to a routine and make adjustments as needed.
