1. What made you decide to become a Caregiver?

I have been in the medical field for over 30 years. Taking care of people is a natural thing for me. I am very caring, loving, and caregiving is my passion.

2. What does professionalism mean to you?

Professionalism to me is presenting myself in an objective, straightforward way to clients, exuding trust, caring, respect, and open communication.

3. What does preparation mean to you in regards to your workday?

On a regular basis, I will be organized and prepared for my workday, planning ahead, communicating well to the clients. I’m always prepared for the task at hand.

4. What does framework mean to you in the caregiver arena?

The framework would be the underlying parameters of providing care to our clients.

Purpose: The culture and structure needed to run a successful caregiving agency.

5. How are you meeting the needs of others as a Caregiver/PCA/LNA/Nurse?

As a caregiver, I’m very tuned into the client and their needs. I am thorough in my preparedness and make the client feel safe and secure under my care. I’m a very good listener and communicate well with others.

7. Preparation: How do you reduce risk to yourself and your client?

I am tuned into the client and go through their house to make sure it’s a safe environment. Together, we go over all safety measures in her home and I communicate clearly the best way to proceed with my caregiving.

8. What does proper attire mean to you?

Dressed well.

9. What does proper mobility mean to you?

I’m acutely aware of the client’s fall risk. I pay a lot of attention to how the client moves around and make sure the home is safe for their walker or wheelchair.

10. What precautions do you take?

I tidy up the home to make mobility optimal.

11. What observations do you make when working?

I am very vigilant in regards to the client’s mobility, mood, needs, and concerns. I encourage open communication so the client will trust and rely on me for all their needs to be met.

12. What does self-control mean to you?

Self-control means being self-aware and appropriate in all situations.

13. What does it mean to follow a care plan?

Each client requires a care plan/requirements of the job that I will follow throughout my workday.

14. What is proper communication?

Proper communication is keeping an open dialogue with the client as well as with TLC staff as needed. It is to avoid any negative words and speak only what is appropriate to the situation.

15. How do you maintain a proper environment?

A proper environment is a safe and secure environment that is an important, critical part of my job as a caregiver.

16. How do you maintain meeting basic needs of your client?

To meet the basic needs of the client is to discuss with the client their needs, expectations, chores to be done; I write everything down so that the care is complete and makes the client happy and safe.

17. What does patience mean to you in the framework of caregiving?

I am a naturally patient person. I meditate for an hour every day and this has taught me patience. Patience is key when caring for the elderly, and I tune into their energy and work as appropriate.

18. How do you handle the unexpected?

I am an easy-going person so I can remain calm and balanced when the unexpected happens. I’m an accomplished communicator which always helps the client stay relaxed.

19. What does proper documentation look like?

Proper documentation is clear and concise, writing appropriate to the care plan.

20. How do you review and improve?

I am always open to training and in-services to improve my ability to be an excellent caregiver.
