1. What made you decide to become a Caregiver?

I have experience in both activities (with people with Alzheimer’s and dementia) and as a former CNA and home care provider. I enjoy the one-on-one focus, care, and attention I can provide.

Respect for the client at all times, respectful language, professional attire and presentation, careful documentation, and attention to regulations.

3. What does preparation mean to you in regards to your workday?

Leaving with enough time for travel, being prepared for any activities or appointments the client may need, being adaptable to change.

Understanding the training and guidelines associated with this type of work. The web of support within the company.

Purpose: To best serve each client with the highest professionalism and for their needs, as well as supporting their independence.

Giving careful attention, not hurrying, listening carefully, meets and helping them with their daily needs, ADLs, companionship.

Safe turning and lifting, safety when assisting with a walker.

Using proper body mechanics, moving slowly and checking with the client before movement.

Attention to surroundings, furniture, moving pets, air quality, etc.

Exercising patience, slowing down, listening, reacting with patience and empathy.

13. What does it mean to follow a care plan?

Read and know (and check often) the individual’s care plan and know where to find it.

14. What is proper communication?

Documentation, calls or email, staying in touch, and calling with updates when needed.

15. How do you maintain a proper environment?

Keep the surroundings clean and safe for the client.

16. How do you maintain meeting the basic needs of your client?

Keep an eye on the care plan, communicate with the agency and client, listen to the client, and assist them with daily activities.

17. What does patience mean to you in the framework of caregiving?

It means active listening, waiting patiently, moving slowly as needed, doing what’s best for the client.

18. How do you handle the unexpected?

Adaptability and flexibility at all times.

19. What does proper documentation look like?

Thorough and according to the guidelines provided by TLC.

20. How do you review and improve?

Constructive feedback is always welcome from the agency and client/their family. Listen, correct, adapt, and improve when needed.
